McCann Reportedly Bound for Yankees

The Duluth High grad is getting a five-year deal to leave Atlanta.

Goodbye Gwinnett, Hello Big Apple.

Brian McCann, a Duluth High grad and the Atlanta Braves' catcher since 2005, has reportedly agreed to contract terms with the New York Yankees, according to media reports.

The New York Times has reported that the deal is for five years, with the Yankees expected to increase the dollar figure to $85 million.

McCann, a Gwinnett resident who will turn 30 in February, becomes a solidifying figure for the Yankees. As the Times reported, Alex Rodriguez is appealing a 211-game suspension; Derek Jeter, 39, and Mark Teixeira (wrist) are coming off injuries; and Robinson Cano is testing the free-agent market.

Also, McCann is a left-handed hitter with power, which makes him a good fit for Yankee Stadium. He has 179 home runs in his nine seasons, and a career .277 batting average.

Also, being in the American League means McCann also could be in the lineup as a designated hitter.

McCann becomes the second significant free agent departure of the off-season for Atlanta. Pitcher Tim Hudson has agreed to a two-year contract with San Francisco.
