High School Football Predictions

Expect tight game for Duluth at Alpharetta.

I was humbled a bit last week in my predictions of high-school football games played in Patch coverage areas from Stone Mountain to Cumming.

After a can-you-believe-it 21-3 record the first week, I cooled off to a 16-6 mark last week (38-9 overall). I only missed badly on one pick. Really.

So, let's lace 'em up for another week. Are you ready?

Duluth at Alpharetta: People might have overlooked this game when perusing the schedule before the season started. But this has the makings of an entertaining game. Alpharetta (1-1) ran into strong playoff contender last week in Mill Creek in a 42-7 loss, but the Raiders showed they can move the ball. The Duluth Wildcats are 2-0 and coming off a 55-21 win over Northview. OK, so it was Northview, but the Wildcats are much better than the team Alpharetta beat 44-17 last year. If you like points, this might do the trick. Duluth 32, Alpharetta 30.

Newnan at Peachtree Ridge: This is an intriguing game between two programs that are usually in the playoff mix. Peachtree Ridge (1-1) righted whatever went wrong in the Corky Kell Classic at the Georgia Dome (a 26-14 loss to Walton) by thoroughly dominating Roswell 31-2 last week. The game wasn’t even that close, to tell you the truth. Newnan, a second-round qualifier in last year’s Class AAAAA playoffs, are 1-0 after a 27-6 win over usually tough LaGrange. The Lions looked too good last week to pick against them this week. Peachtree Ridge 27, Newnan 21.
