Duluth Hockey Team Qualifies for Tournament

Atlanta Phoenix PeeWee Major team to compete in national championship later this month.

 

By winning the state championship March 3, the Atlanta Phoenix PeeWee Major hockey team qualified to compete in the national championship. The Duluth-based team swept past the Atlanta Fire to win the state title.

The Atlanta Phoenix Hockey Club plays out of the Duluth Ice Forum. This group of 12-and 13-year-old players won their SYTHL (Southern Youth Travel Hockey League) division earlier this season with a record of 20 wins, 3 losses and 1 tie in league play. They finished the regular season with an overall record of 41 wins, 13 losses and 8 ties.

The National Championship PeeWee Tournament will be played in Reston, VA, just outside Washington, DC, March 28-April 1. The tourney will consist of 16 teams squaring off in four games of a round-robin competition, with the top eight teams ascending to a single-elimination round.
