Third Gwinnett School Enrollment Count Released

Third enrollment count Aug. 22 resulted in 161,698 students. This puts the district 761 below forecast with two more counting days remaining.

Enrollment in Gwinnett County Public Schools for the 2011-12 year continues to increase and approach the school system's post-Labor Day forecast of 162,459 students. The third enrollment count Aug. 22 resulted in a figure of 161,698 students. This puts the district 761 below forecast with two more counting days remaining.

"Since our first count on the second day of school (Aug. 9), GCPS has grown by 4,739 students," Jorge Quintana, GCPS director of media relations, reported. The enrollment has increased by 1,049 students within the previous week. At this time last year, the district grew by 1,280 students, he said.

District planners expect the school system's post-Labor Day enrollment to be very close to the forecast. The next counts will be conducted Aug. 29, and Sept. 6. Historically, enrollment continues to climb during the year, with the post-Labor Day count more accurately reflecting school enrollment.
