Area School Board Meeting in Duluth Tonight

The Gwinnett Board of Education has scheduled the annual District III Area Meeting for 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, in the theater at , 3737 Brock Road. The meeting provides an opportunity for the board to share information with the public and for citizens to speak on education topics.

Gwinnett County Public Schools CEO/Supt. Alvin Wilbanks will present his annual address on the state of the school district during the meeting. Parents and Cluster School representatives have signed up to speak before the board, according to Jorge Quintana, GCPS director of media relations.

The audience will have the opportunity to fill out cards with questions to be submitted to the board to answer at the end of the meeting, Quintana said.

Refreshments will be served during a reception at 6:30 p.m. prior to the Tuesday night meeting.

The school board will meet at 6 p.m. to tentatively vote on the proposed new budget. Formal budget adoption is scheduled May 17 following public hearings May 10 and May 17.

The board meets in all five school board members' districts every year. The District III meeting, which alternates between Duluth and Norcross high schools, is the last in this year's series.

All Duluth Cluster schools are in District III, represented by Dr. Mary Kay Murphy. Some schools in Peachtree Corners, Norcross, and Suwanee are also in District III, which was redrawn by the Georgia General Assembly based on 2010 Census data.
