Summer School Starting Soon

While some Gwinnett students have closed their books for the summer, others who want to catch up or get ahead will be cracking open their books again when Summer School starts later in June.

Face-to-Face Classes are scheduled June 12-July 11 for high school students and rising ninth graders at Mountain View High School, Peachtree Ridge High School and South Gwinnett High School, according to information provided by Gwinnett County Public Schools. July 4 will be a school holiday.

Here is the summer class schedule:

• 1st Period: 7-11a.m.
• Lunch: 11-11:30 a.m.
• 2nd Period: 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Click here to learn more about face-to-face summer school. Students may register online for face-to-face classes through June 4 or register in person from 5 to 8 p.m. on May 31 at Peachtree Ridge High. In-person registration requires cash for tuition.

Online Classes are offered June 11-July 10 with July 4 as a holiday through Gwinnett County Online Campus (GOC). Online registration closes June 4. Register online. Face-to-face meetings are required for final exams and for selected classes (health, PE, and science labs).

Here is important information for face-to-face and online campus summer school students:

• Transportation is not provided for face-to-face summer school classes or for the face-to-face sessions required for Online Campus courses.
• A student should take no more than two summer classes: two face-to-face classes, two online classes, or a combination.
• All tuition fees are due at the time of registration.
• Any student planning to participate in the summer school graduation ceremony must take all summer classes with Gwinnett County Public Schools.
• Both the Face-to-Face classes and the online programs will follow a Monday-to-Thursday schedule. Face-to-face and online summer classes will not meet on Fridays.

Elementary and middle school students who need more time and opportunity to learn will have that option during Gwinnett's free Academic Summer School. Qualifying students in grades 3-8 were recommended for the 15-day session if they did not meet requirements for promotion to the next grade -- passing required sections of the state’s Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests (CRCT) for grades 3, 4, 5, 7, and 8; meeting writing standards for grades 5 and 8; or passing core classes for 6th and 8th graders.

Participating students will take a retest at the end of summer school to determine placement for 2012-13. Students will attend summer classes Monday through Thursday for three weeks, starting June 18 and ending July 12, with July 4 as a holiday. Summer school students will not attend classes on Fridays.

All Gwinnett Middle schools will hold summer school on their campus with the following exceptions:

• Bay Creek students will attend Couch Middle.
• Five Forks students will attend Crews Middle.
• Grace Snell students will attend Snellville Middle.
• Osborne students will attend Jones Middle.

Most Gwinnett Elementary schools will hold summer school in pairs or by "cluster" with one host school, and a handful will have stand-alone sites. Learn more about the participating schools and host locations online.
