DMS educator certified as master teacher. Valedictorian Ronald Kurtz presented award.

Jean Sohn of Duluth Middle School was among 14 Gwinnett County Public Schools educators who finished the 2010-2011 school year certified as Master Teachers. She earned the certification through a statewide program that honors experienced teachers who have made a difference in student achievement. Certified Master Teachers become part of a pool of candidates eligible to become Academic Coaches, professionals who serve as mentors for their peers. The Master Teachers Certification Program is run by the Professional Standards Commission. For more information, visit www.georgiamasterteachers.org.

Duluth High School Valedictorian Ronald Kurtz and other 2011 valedictorians were the beneficiary of the generosity of local scholarlship sponsors. Dr. Meena and J.J. Shah, owners of Gwinnett Clinic, presented each valedictorian in Gwinnett County Public Schools with a $300 Award for Excellence in Academics Scholarship in conjunction with the Gwinnett County Public Schools Foundation. Nineteen valedictorians received checks this year for a total donation of $5,700.
