Gwinnett Students to Show Off Math, Science Skills

Duluth High, other students competing in science and engineering fairs in Georgia, Los Angeles.

Gwinnett County Public Schools students from 15 schools including Duluth High will compete in the Georgia Science and Engineering Fair this week in Athens. Forty-six GCPS student projects have been entered in the fair, according to an announcement by Gwinnett County Public Schools.

Other participating GCPS schools include Bay Creek, Dacula, Lanier, McConnell, Shiloh, Summerour, and Trickum Middle schools; Collins Hill, Dacula, Mill Creek, Norcross, Parkview, and Peachtree Ridge high schools; and the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology in Lawrenceville (GSMST).

Duluth High School students competing in the state fair March 31-April 2 and their categories are Hayley Arrowood, medical and health sciences; Kate Croxton, animal sciences; and Jonathan Li, mathematical sciences.

GSMST students going to the state fair include Shawn Albert, microbiology; Jessica Allison, engineering materials and bioengineering; Elliott Chung, computer science; Heather Huynh, chemistry; Megha Mandel and Seong Jin Park, behavioral and social sciences; Troy Morrow, chemistry; and Rachel Sackett, energy and transportation. The GSMST attracts students from all over Gwinnett County.

Students advanced to the state fair after placing first during the regional fair in February. Those who excel at the state level will travel to Los Angeles to compete with students from across the world during the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair May 8-13.

Danish Singh, another GSMST student, already has qualified to compete in LA based on his high ranking at the regional fair. His category is energy and transportation.
