Gwinnett Online Campus Extends Registration

Gwinnett County Online Campus (GOC), Gwinnett’s full-time online learning
option, has extended registration for the 2012–13 school year through March 15 for students in grades 6–12. Students can get more information through the counselor’s office at the local middle or high school and on the GOC website.

Brookwood High School, Crews Middle School and Gwin Oaks Elementary School emerged as the winners of the Gwinnett Readers Rally in finals at the GCPS TV Studio. Students eagerly showed off their knowledge of selected books they had read in the quiz-style competition while parents watched on video monitors and cheered on the 10-member teams. Duluth’s Chattahoochee Elementary lost by one question in the first round to Jackson Elementary, which was later defeated by Gwin Oaks. The finals will be aired on GCPS TV Monday, March 12, through Sunday, March 18, at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Duluth High students will perform the musical “Footloose” March 15, 16, and 17 at 7 p.m. and March 18 at 2:30 p.m. in the school Theatre. Tickets are available at $10 for adults and $8 for students or children. 

Duluth Cluster Schools took home trophies and medals at the Destination ImagiNation State Tournament.  Duluth High School, Duluth Middle School and Chesney Elementary are now state champions and received an invitation to represent Duluth and Georgia at Global Finals at the University of Tennessee May 23 - 26. The 2012 Gwinnett Transition Fair for students with disabilities, their parents, and educators is scheduled March 1 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Peachtree Ridge High in Suwanee. Topics include Medicaid Waivers, Navigating Social Security Benefits, Estate Planning and Guardianship Options, Department of Labor, Vocational Rehabilitation Services, Assistive Technology, and Vocational and Community programs after high school. Attendees will have an opportunity to meet with representatives from agencies and organizations in the metro Atlanta area.
