GSMST to Hold Freshman Class Lottery Feb. 13

Charter math, science and technology school receives 696 registrations for freshman class next fall, but only 350 slots available.

Due to the number of interested students who would like to attend
the Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology (GSMST), a charter school operating in Gwinnett County, the school district will use a lottery
process to randomly select students for next year’s freshman class.

As of the school system’s Feb. 3 deadline, 696 registrations had been received from current eighth grade students seeking admission for next fall. The school only will accept 350 students for next year’s freshman class.

The lottery will be held Monday, Feb. 13, beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the school district’s Instructional Support Center (ISC), 437 Old Peachtree Road NW in Suwanee.

GSMST applicants have been assigned a lottery number and have been notified by email of their number, as well as the lottery time, date, and location. As those selected for enrollment will be notified that day by email and mail of the lottery results, there is no requirement for parents and students to attend the lottery. However, the lottery is open to the public.

While the school will only accept 350 students for next year’s ninth grade class, all 696 numbers will be drawn. The remaining numbers will make up a waiting list.

After first opening in 2007 with its first freshman group of students,
GSMST graduated its first class in May of 2011. The school is located in
Lawrenceville.
