Georgia Gwinnett College Extends Fall Registration

GGC expands Fall 2011 academic offerings and adds second open house for prospective students.

Responding to “a flood of applications,” has extended its deadline to apply for fall 2011 classes. The new date is July 1, according to a recently issued news release.

"We have received an unprecedented number of applications, far beyond what we saw last year at this time,” Stas Preczewski, vice president for academic and student affairs, said in the release. “We want to be sure that all prospective students have a chance to submit their applications.  In particular, many first-generation college students may need more time to deal with what is an unfamiliar process.” GGC, located in Lawrenceville, is expected to enroll an estimated 8,000 students this fall.

GGC also announced an additional open house program to assist college-bound students in learning more about the college. Both open houses will include tours of the campus with stops in the college’s recently opened student center, library, learning center and student residence halls.

Georgia Gwinnett College also has again expanded its curriculum by introducing several new academic programs that further enhance educational opportunities for GGC students. New offerings in leadership, management information systems, political science, information technology, English, and teacher education will be available in Fall 2011 to current and incoming students.

GGC’s new teacher education unit, which is housed in the School of Education, was recently approved by the Georgia Professional Standards Division. Students may pursue programs in early childhood education, special education and English for speakers of other languages (ESOL), as well as majors that lead to teaching certification in English, history, political science, biology and mathematics

GGC is accepting room applications for on-campus residents. Residence halls are suites of two to 12 private bedrooms with common area kitchenettes and living/lounge spaces. Halls are located near academic buildings, the library, learning center and student center.
