GCPS Sales Tax Receipts Behind Projections

The Gwinnett school board is not getting its projected amount of sales tax revenue so far in 2012, according to its records.

For June of 2012, the system projected $21.4 million but the actual collection was $12.2 million, according to GCPS records. Collections have been behind projections in every month in 2012.

These figures are from ESPLOST III, which ran from 2007-12, according to Jorge Quintana, spokesperson for the Gwinnett schools.

In all ESPLOST III projected $1 billion in revenue, but only collected $647 million.

Collections for the E-SPLOST IV one-cent sales tax that was approved by voters last November began in July 2012.

Voters overwhelmingly OK'd a one-cent sales tax that will run from July 2012 through June 2017. The E-SPLOST IV funds are expected to bring in $876 million, according the GCPS. The projects tapped for the new E-SPLOST funds include new schools, air conditioning for gyms and technology upgrades.

Board members are scheduled to get a presentation on the sales tax figures at Thursday's (July 19) meeting at the r in Suwanee.
