Divorce Arbitration & Mediation 101

Wondering what options you have in formalizing a marital separation or a divorce?

This seminar is designed to provide individuals an overview of the separation and divorce process in Georgia, and the various paths to them.

While every divorce in Georgia requires a court order to dissolve the marriage, couples can choose to use mediation, arbitration or med-arb (a hybrid) to avoid protracted litigation and costly legal battles. Through these processes, couples (and their legal counsel) can retain much more control over the outcomes.

This course provides information regarding how the processes of mediation, arbitration and "Med-Arb" can assist couples in "teeing up" an uncontested divorce (with or without attorneys) or a settlement in a divorce already pending in court.

Additionally, what every couple will need (or want) to do in preparation for divorce, whether obtained through litigation or mediation, is reviewed and written materials, checklists, and other resources are provided.  Other topics including childsupport worksheets, parenting plans, divorcing parents seminars (court required), retirement issues, financial affidavits, and alimony, also are discussed.  Ample time is provided for questions and answers.
