Duluth High School’s Chorus will perform Peach Jam on Friday, April 27, and Saturday, April 28, at 7 p.m. in the theater at Duluth High School, 3737 Brock Road. The chorus’ 16th annual musical variety show has a “Love” theme. Tickets are $10 for adults and children at the door. $8 tickets are available online.
Senior Niki Vanden Hoek was recently crowned Miss Duluth High School 2012 after an evening of pageant competition in song and dance. Other winners were sophomore Lauren Bell, freshman Rachel Rice, and eighth grader Carley Matheson, who was crowned Miss Duluth Middle School. Tim Mettille was named favorite escort.
A total of 26 girls competed for the crown, earning a third of their points during an interview tea. Then each girl was judged (1/3) on their on-stage presentation and (1/3) on their evening gown at the pageant. Seniors answered an on-stage question as a tie-breaker.
The opening number of “Greased Lightening” was choreographed by Cindy Brown of Miss Cindy’s Dance Studio in downtown Duluth.
Vanden Hoek was awarded a $1,000 scholarship. She plans to attend Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville this fall and study broadcast journalism.
Two Duluth High social studies teachers were recently recognized. Geri
Flanary was named one of the 30 Most Outstanding Educators in America and
featured in a chapter of the book “Great Educators” by Pintail Publishing.
Delores Dalton was nominated by one of her students as National History Teacher of the Year.
The Gwinnett County Public Schools Foundation will present the 2012 Gwinnett County Sports Hall of Fame fundraiser for World Class Schools at Coolray Field at 6 p.m. May 5.
