Duluth Educators Named 2013 'Master Teachers'

State officials announced this week that three Duluth educators have been named 2013 "Master Teachers."

A total of 13 Gwinnett County educators and 58 across the state were named "Master Teachers" this year, according to a statement by Gov. Nathan Deal.

Duluth educators named are:
  • Shuanita Cochran, a social studies teacher at Hull Middle School
  • Linda King, a retiring teacher at Duluth Middle School
  • Richard Whatley, a math teacher at Radloff Middle School

Teachers earn ‘Master Teacher’ certification based on classroom performance on the Criterion-Referenced Competency Test, documented student growth and exemplary professional practices, according to a statement from the governor’s office.

The "Master Teacher" designation is good for seven years, and those teachers may automatically renew their teaching certificates as long as they continue to qualify.
