Be 'One of 100 Heroes' for DHS Bands Campaign

Duluth High School Band Boosters Association launches $10,000 campaign to fund assistant band director position.

In early February the Duluth High School Band Boosters Association launched its “One of 100 Heroes” fundraiser with a goal of generating $10,000 to continue providing an assistant band director to give student musicians supplemental instrument instruction. Gwinnett County Public Schools does not fund the position.

"Funding the assistant band director position is the biggest expense in the DHSBBA budget from which every band student benefits. The association is in desperate need of funds to keep this position available to students," according to a letter sent to band families and supporters by the DHSBBA.

A donation of $100 dollars from a family, relative, business, church group, etc., will reserve a place on the “One of 100 Heroes” work of art to be revealed at the band banquet in May 2012. Donors will also be celebrated through the DHS Bands website and the “One of 100 Heroes” Facebook page, Twitter account and on YouTube. The fundraising campaign continues through April 20.

A plaque will be on display in the DHS Main Lobby in the 600 Building. Each nameplate will have two lines for customizing the donor message. The $100 donation is 100% tax-deductible because the DHSBBA is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization.
