Ribbon Snipped for Projects at Rogers Bridge Park

Ceremony celebrates Greenway Trail, River Overlook and Bikeway Trail

Duluth city officials snipped a bright yellow ribbon commemorating the completion of early phases of the Rogers Bridge Park Greenway Trail, River Overlook and Bikeway Trail at Rogers Bridge Park Thursday (Feb. 3).

The mayor, city council members, directors of the Parks and Recreation Department and Planning Department, and members of the Duluth Parks and Recreation Advisory Board gathered on the scenic overlook for the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The Chattahoochee River and Rogers Bridge are visible from the overlook.

They were joined by representatives of Bron Cleveland Associates and Georgia Development Partners, who were involved in design and construction of the Greenway Trail and River Overlook.

“This park has such great potential, it is a joy to open this element of it,” said Mayor Nancy Harris. “It is a big part of Duluth being a healthy city.”

City Administrator Phil McLemore reviewed the challenges involved in acquiring additional property that increased park size and completing the river trail and overlook. With the addition of 10 acres, the park now contains 23 acres.

The Greenway Trail and River Overlook represent the beginning of a larger planned trail system that will allow bikers and pedestrians access along the river. The Bikeway Trail connects Rogers Bridge Park to Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. Duluth Parks & Recreation Director Kathy Marelle called the projects “the beginning of good things to come.”

The Greenway Trail and River Overlook was largely funded through Georgia Department of Natural Resources grants, Marelle said. The total cost for both projects was $295,000.

The park is located at 4291 Rogers Bridge Road. Other planned improvements include a Dog Park to be paid for with SPLOST funds.
