Register to Vote by Oct. 11 Deadline

One contested race for Duluth City Council post, Sunday liquor sales on Nov. 8 ballot.

The Oct. 11 deadline to register to vote in the Duluth municipal election is quickly approaching.

The election is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 8, at to elect a mayor and two council members and vote on whether or not to allow Sunday retail alcohol sales in the city limits.

Current Mayor Nancy Harris and Post 5 Councilman Greg Whitlock are unopposed for re-election. Dusty Graham and Kelly Kelkenberg are vying for the Post 4 council seat being vacated by Councilman Doug Mundrick, who is not running for re-election. A sample ballot will be posted on the city's website as soon as it becomes available.

All voting in the city election takes place at city hall regardless of where a voter's precinct for federal, state and county elections is located. Gwinnett County is planning to hold a special election this November as well. Therefore, Duluth residents may be required to vote in more than one precinct if city hall is not their normal polling place.

Information on how to register to vote in the Duluth city election is available on the city's website. Voter registration cards also are available at city hall.

Voters can locate their normal polling place for county elections using their name, county of residence, and birthdate.

Valid identification is required to vote.

Absentee/early voting in person begins on Oct. 17 and continues during regular Duluth City Hall business hours Monday–Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. until Nov. 4. No absentee/early voting is permitted by law on Nov. 7. Polls will be open at City Hall for regular voting in the municipal election on Nov. 8 from 7 a.m to 7 p.m.
