Part of Pleasant Hill Road To Get New Sidewalks

Another project installs sidewalks on Club Drive connecting Pleasant Hill Road to Club Drive Park.

Two projects to improve pedestrian safety in the Gwinnett Place area in Duluth advanced with recent action by the Gwinnett Board of Commissioners.

Pleasant Hill Road from Satellite Boulevard to I-85 will get new sidewalks, curb and gutter, lighting, seating, signage, and landscaping, according to an announcement by the county. A future project will extend the streetscaping to Breckinridge Boulevard.

Federal funding will provide $350,000 toward the project. Gwinnett County and the Gwinnett Place Community Improvement District will provide any additional funds for the sidewalks and pedestrian enhancements, the announcement stated. Work is scheduled to begin in the next several months.

The second project will provide sidewalks on Club Drive connecting Pleasant Hill Road to Club Drive Park, according to the announcement. The work, expected to begin next year, will also include curb and gutter installation, roadside shoulder and drainage improvements. This is an area popular for pedestrians, especially children and families walking on the busy road to play at the park.

“These board actions are an incremental step required for federally funded projects. We are grateful for the opportunity to use these funds to continue to improve pedestrian safety in Gwinnett County,” said Gwinnett DOT Director Brian Allen in the announcement. The Gwinnett Board of Commissioners approved contracts with the Georgia Department of Transportation Aug. 2 for the projects.
