The Duluth resident and Suwanee accountant congratulates her opponent Jace Brooks on his GOP Primary victory July 31.

Laurie McClain, who was defeated in Tuesday's Primary election for the Gwinnett BOC District 1 seat, congratulated her opponent Jace Brooks Tuesday on his victory.

"Yesterday was the culmination of three years of preparation and dedication to a cause that I thought was crucial to Gwinnett. Although we came up short, I am so proud of my friends, my supporters, and my volunteers for sticking by me through it all," McClain, a Suwanee accountant, said in a Facebook post.

McClain got 45.9 percent of the votes cast Tuesday, to 54 percent for Brooks, a former Suwanee City Council member. A total of 12,212 votes were cast in the race. The race was too close to call late Tuesday evening.

Her message continued: "It just wasn't God's plan for me right now, and I'm looking forward to the bigger and better things He has in store for me. I'm confident that District 1 will be well represented by Jace Brooks and that finally we can regain the voters' trust on our commission. Godspeed!"
