Living Honorarium to be Unveiled in Duluth on 9/11

Monument honors living military, veterans, police officers, firefighters, and emergency service providers.

The community is invited to a special ceremony on the  on the 10th anniversary the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the United States. The City of Duluth will host a ceremony to unveil the Living Honorarium, a monument that honors living military, veterans, police officers, firefighters, and emergency service providers. The event will include music, keynote speakers and presentation of a commemorative coin.

Gwinnett County Commissioner Shirley Lasseter envisioned a memorial, now called an honorarium, while serving as mayor of Duluth and initiated the fund-raising campaign for it. The city later commissioned well-known Atlanta sculptor Martin Dawe of CherryLion Studios to create the monument. The design of the sculpture is being kept a secret until the unveiling at 5:30 p.m.

Duluth Mayor Pro Tem Greg Whitlock, City Council members, Commissioner Lasseter and monument donors will be joined by active and veteran military personnel, police and fire chiefs, police officers, firefighters, emergency service providers, and sheriff’s deputies for the ceremony. Also participating will be the Duluth High School Band & Chorus, Duluth High School ROTC, Primrose School preschoolers and teachers, and others.
