Learn About Your City Government at L.E.A.D.

Sign up extended through Thursday, Aug. 25. L.E.A.D. Academy encourages Duluth citizens to participate by serving on various boards and committees and to explore other opportunities in the community and in the city to become involved.

Learn more about the City of Duluth and become involved in city government by enrolling and attending the fourth annual L.E.A.D. Academy. L.E.A.D. stands for Learn, Engage, Advance Duluth. The deadline to sign up has been extended to Thursday, Aug. 25.

L.E.A.D. offers a way for citizens to become knowledgeable about city operations, services, and the overall functions of city government, according to an announcement by the city. An interactive learning experience, the L.E.A.D. program provides information about city services, programs and responsibilities.

During the course of the academy, citizens casually interact with elected officials and city staff. Class participants are afforded the opportunity to ask questions and gain a better understanding of Duluth government and their role in local government.

This leadership program encourages citizens to participate by serving on various boards and committees and to explore other opportunities in the community and in the city to become involved. The citizens and business leaders who participate are empowered to create insightful solutions to important community issues and needs.

The program sparks interest in local issues, presents information about important questions facing the city, provides an opportunity for residents to help plan the community’s future, and gives citizens hands-on experience in city government operations.

A six-week program, the L.E.A.D. Academy starts Tuesday, Sept. 20, and continues each Tuesday through Oct. 25 from 6 to 9 p.m. Applications are available online at www.duluthga.net or at Duluth City Hall.
