Income Taxes 2014: You Can Download Past Tax Returns

The IRS adds an option for taxpayers. Also, filing season opens soon for 2013 returns.

It's tax time again, 2014 style. And sometimes, past federal income tax returns are necessary in financial planning.

Now, taxpayers can download their tax transcripts, also known as tax returns, directly from the Internal Revenue Service.

According to techcrunch.com, U.S. Treasury official Katherine Sydor made the announcement at the recent White House education “Datapalooza,” a gathering of hackers and policy leaders.

“I am very excited to announce that the IRS has just launched, this week, the ‘get transcript’ application, which will give taxpayers the ability to view, print, and download tax transcripts," Sydor said.

Previously, citizens had to fill out a questionnaire and wait 5-10 business days for a physical form through U.S. mail, the article noted.
