Gwinnett's TSPLOST Chat Thursday

Gwinnett Commission Chairman Charlotte Nash and Norcross Mayor Bucky Johnson to answer questions on TSPLOST in telephone session at 6:15 p.m. June 7.

Norcross Mayor Bucky Johnson and Gwinnett Commission Chairman Charlotte Nash are hosting a free "wireside chat" Thursday, June 7, at 6:15 p.m. to answer questions about the upcoming TSPLOST vote.

The Thursday event is part of a two-week series of telephone discussions about projects proposed under the Transportation Investment Act in the metro Atlanta area. Citizens can access the session by calling 404-463-3227 or by visiting www.wiresidechats.com.

"I appreciate the opportunity to connect with the citizens in such a convenient way for both elected officials and citizens," said Johnson. "I believe an informed voter is the best, and you should be able to get good information out. This is not a promotional chat; it's informational."

The chat will last for one hour and will focus on projects in the Gwinnett area, according to a press release. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions directly to Nash and Johnson, but if a question is not answered during the call, the caller will receive a response via email.

"Mayor Johnson and I look forward to speaking with potentially thousands of our friends and neighbors about the referendum," said Nash in the release. "Our goal is to inform Gwinnett County residents about the projects that will impact them most."

On July 31, residents across the 10-county Atlanta region can vote on a referendum to fund $8.5 billion in transportation improvements across metro Atlanta through a regional 1 percent sales tax.

The list of projects to be built with the revenue was created in 2011 with input from more than 200,000 regional residents. The list is available at www.metroatlantatransportationvote.com.
