Gwinnett Place CID Awarded Grant for DDI

The Gwinnett Place Community Improvement District (GPCID) is getting a $1-million grant to be used toward construction of the Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI) at Interstate 85 and Pleasant Hill Road.

Gov. Nathan Deal announced approval of the grant request Thursday (June 21) at the State Capitol, according to a press release issued by the GPCID.

The funds are being made available through the Georgia Transportation Infrastructure Bank (GTIB). The GTIB program is a revolving infrastructure investment fund established in 2008 by Georgia legislators and administered by the State Road and Tollway Authority (SRTA).

“The GTIB program is a way for communities who are serious about investing in their infrastructure to apply for the help they need to complete or move their projects forward,” said Gov. Deal in the press release. “These projects are the kind of investments that not only sustain communities, but they also strengthen communities by providing more job opportunities.”

“We are very fortunate to have such strong and supportive partners in revitalization as Gov. Deal and Gwinnett County,” GPCID Executive Director Joe Allen commented. “This project will result in improved traffic flow and safety enhancements.”

“We are honored that the Governor sees the value of the hard work that is going into this project, as do the local property owners and businesses in the Greater Gwinnett Place area,” Gwinnett Place CID Chairman Leo Wiener said.

The GPCID and Gwinnett County are partnering to convert the Pleasant Hill Bridge from a conventional diamond interchange to a DDI. The project is being paid for with SPLOST and GPCID funds.

The Tuesday (June 19) to award a $4.3-million contract for the project to Snellville-based E.R. Snell Contractor Inc. Construction on the new bridge is expected to begin this summer.

The Gwinnett Village CID and the Lilburn CID were also each awarded $1-million grants.
