Gwinnett BOC Cuts Pay for Four Employee Holidays

Action establishes July 4, Sept. 5, Nov. 25 and Dec. 23 as unpaid furlough days

Gwinnett County has made good on more efforts to close an $18-million budget shortfall. Commissioners on Tuesday (March 1) approved turning four paid holidays into unpaid furlough days for county employees.Β

The action establishes July 4, Sept. 5, Nov. 25 and Dec. 23 as unpaid furlough days for many of the 4,600 county workers. Public safety officials scheduled to work on those days will receive regular pay, but no additional holiday pay, county officials said.

This and other measures still leave the county more than $2 million short of the goal, but commissioners say that raising taxes or using fund balance to even things out are not options.
