Gwinnett 2014 Budget Anticipates Tax Digest Increase

The proposed spending plan is unveiled. Commissioners will vote in January.

Saying "we think we have hit bottom" in terms of the county's tax digest, Gwinnett County officials have proposed a slightly smaller budget for 2014.

Unveiling the proposed budget Tuesday (Nov. 19), officials said the new budget would be about $1.5 billion, down 0.09 percent from 2013.

A major factor noted was an expected increase of $6.8 million in revenue from the tax digest increase, the first such rise since 2008.

Also, the proposed budget includes a 3 percent pay raise for county employees, the first such increase since 2009.

Financial Services Director Maria Woods said, "We think we have hit bottom" in the countywide tax digest drop, which was an estimated $5.6 billion from 2008-13.
