Gov. Deal Unveils Winning License Plate Design

Online voters choose design submitted by Linda Sosebee of Forsyth, GA, for new car tag.

A new Georgia license plate tag designed by Linda Sosebee of Forsyth, GA, received the most online votes (34,154) in the recent contest conducted by the Georgia Department of Revenue. Gov. Nathan Deal, Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle and Department of Revenue Commissioner Doug MacGinnitie unveiled the winning license plate today (Aug. 23). The general issue plate is scheduled to begin production in the fall.

“After hundreds of thousands of votes were cast, we are pleased to announce the winning design,” Deal said in a press release. “All of the semifinalists submitted great designs that would reflect well on our state, but the winning plate was the clear favorite among voters. I congratulate Linda Sosebee on being named the winner.” The Department of Revenue received more than 500 design submissions at the outset of the contest. Sosebee also submitted the second-place design, which received 15,380 votes.

Sosebee has created many large-scale murals for the Georgia Department of Corrections, the Forsyth-Monroe County Chamber of Commerce, several hospitals and private practices. She also has designed logos for businesses and corporations.

The new license plate will have “digital” (flat) design that will save the state money and allow customers the option of having their license plate delivered to them instead of having to go to a county tag office, according to the press release. The “flat” plate technology will allow the number to be easier identified by Georgia law enforcement.

Georgia taxpayers will also have the option of selecting a plain tag. The department will begin replacing existing license plates once the owner’s plate has exceeded the minimum five-year life as set forth by the Georgia Code.
