GDOT Puts Brakes On Lane Closures for Holiday

Construction-related lane closures suspended through Memorial Day Weekend.

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) announced it is suspending construction-related lane closures during the Memorial Day weekend. Motorists will be able to enjoy the open lanes from 5 a.m. Friday, May 27, until 10 p.m. Monday, May 30.

GDOT is advising travelers to exercise caution as heavy holiday traffic is expected.

“Historically, Georgia experiences more than 2,000 crashes resulting in more than a dozen fatalities and more than a thousand injuries during the Memorial Day Weekend,” said Transportation Commissioner Vance. C. Smith Jr. in the announcement. “Enjoy your holiday, but please be very careful while driving.”
