Fair Tax Legislation Gains Two More Supporters

This week Congressman Rob Woodall’s Fair Tax signature legislation gained two more co-sponsors: U.S. Sen. Richard Lugar (R-IN) and U.S. Rep. Sam Graves (R-MO), according to an announcement issued by Woodall (R-GA). Sen. Lugar signed on as a co-sponsor of S. 13, the “FairTax Act of 2011.”  Introduced by U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA), S. 13 is the Senate version of H.R. 25, also called the “FairTax Act of 2011." Congressman Graves signed on to H.R. 25, the House-introduced version of the FairTax.

“I am pleased that Sen. Lugar and Congressman Graves have committed to the FairTax,” Woodall said in the announcement. “The FairTax is the only tax reform proposal that offers Americans freedom from the large hand of government reaching into their paycheck each month. The bill would jump start economic growth and job creation more than any other piece of legislation in Congress could. Adding these two fine members to the FairTax’s list of congressional supporters is another indication of just how much national backing the FairTax actually has.”

On the basis of co-sponsors, the FairTax is the most widely supported tax reform bill in Congress, according to the announcement. The House-introduced version of the FairTax H.R. 25 now has 62 co-sponsors. The Senate-introduced version of the FairTax S. 13, now has seven co-sponsors. 

“The FairTax has such extensive support in Congress because the American people have called on their representatives to get on board and to make this bill become a reality. As support grows, so does the FairTax’s chances of becoming law. I encourage every American to learn about and support this important bill, and then take the next step and call on his or her representative and senators in Congress to add their names to it,” Woodall said.
