Enter Your Dog to Run for Mayor of Chattapoochee Dog Park

Is your dog exceptional? Would he or she be a good ambassador for the Chattapoochee Dog Park and the City of Duluth?

If you think so, submit your dog as a candidate for the next mayor of Chattapoochee Dog Park. Forms are available online on the city’s website and in several locations around the city. Application deadline is Aug. 2.

“Shiner,” the current Chattapoochee Dog Park mayor, presided over the opening of the dog park and has made numerous appearances at city events. He was also featured in Mayor Nancy Harris’ State of the City Address.

The City of Duluth Parks and Recreation Department and the Duluth Historical Society will announce Duluth's next “Top Dog” to serve as mayor of the Chattapoochee Dog Park at the Chattapoochee Pet Festival in Rogers Bridge Park on Sunday, Oct. 6.

To qualify for mayor of the Chattapoochee Dog Park, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Dog owner must be a city resident or a city business owner.
  • Picture of dog candidate must be submitted with official entry form.
  • Official entry form obtained from the Duluth Parks and Recreation website, Bunten Road Park Activity Building, Duluth Historical Society or Duluth City Hall.
  • All entries must be submitted by midnight Friday, Aug. 2.
  • Finalists will be announced in September to participate in a citywide campaign to elect the new mayor.
  • Winner will serve a one-year term representing the City of Duluth Chattapoochee Dog Park and the Duluth Historical Society.
