Duluth Taking Bids for Red Clay Theater Project

The facility is considered an important part of downtown.

The downtown redevelopment plans continue in Duluth.

According to the city website, the bidding process is open for Red Clay Theater Basement Modifications. The notice was posted on Dec. 22, 2013, and bids will be accepted until Feb. 6, 2014.

The notice describes the project goals by saying:

The purpose of the project is to create classroom space and separate visiting artist support operations from the general public.  Remove existing room layout, construct eight (8) sound enhanced class rooms, relocate restroom/shower facilities. The venue is an operating entertainment facility. Live shows will be programmed during the construction period.

Once a winning bidder has been selected, a project beginning date of Feb. 18 is anticipated, with work being completed in 120 days (roughly four months), the notice said.

Companies interested in the project are invited to submit a lump-sum bid as part of the proposal.

The Red Clay Theater, which is owned by the city, is located at 3116 Main Street, near City Hall. It currently hosts musical performers under the promotion of Eddie Owen Presents. The venue is considered an important part of downtown, for its ability to draw people.

This is the latest effort by Duluth officials to redevelop the downtown area. An invitation to develop a vacant infill lot on Main Street also has been posted. Also, an overall downtown master plan was rolled out late in 2013.
