Duluth Keeps Same Tax Rate

Duluth City Council adopts 5.991 tax millage rate for 2012 to help fund FY2013 budget.

Duluth’s 2012 tax millage rate will stay the same as the past two years. The Duluth City Council Monday (July 9) adopted a resolution setting the tax millage rate for city property taxes at 5.991 mills for 2012, the same rate that was in effect for 2010 and 2011.

Revenue raised by applying the tax rate to each $1,000 of assessed property value minus exemptions will help to fund a FY2013 General Fund operating budget of $20.4 million, a 6.5 percent increase over an amended FY2012 budget of $19.2 million. An anticipated decrease of slightly over $700,000 in property tax revenue was budgeted for FY2013.

Duluth’s complete FY2013 budget amounts to $73.5 million. This includes the General Fund, Capital Projects, Other Funds and Stormwater Utility Funds. Because the city’s budget is balanced, an equal amount of expenses are budgeted.
