Duluth City Manager Placed on Administrative Leave?

The action may have happened Wednesday. Mayor has no comment.

Updated 10:13 a.m.

Duluth Mayor Nancy Harris would not comment Thursday (Oct. 3) on whether City Manager Tim Shearer has been placed on administrative leave.

"This is a personnel issue," Harris said in an email to Duluth Patch.

An anonymous source told Duluth Patch that Shearer, who has been Duluth's city manager since October 2011, was placed on leave Wednesday.

Shearer could not be reached for comment via phone or email.

The source provided Patch with a letter to city staff from Harris dated Oct. 2.

The city manager's role in Duluth is "on-scene decisions to keep day-to-day operations running smoothly," according to the city website. He answers to the city's elected officials.

The next scheduled meeting of the Duluth City Council, which the city manager routinely attends, is Monday, Oct. 14.

-- Patch will follow developments on this issue.
