DNR Asks: Which Eagle to Put on New Wildlife Tag

With more than 18,000 people voting in the Wildlife Licnse Plate Deisign Survey in September, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources' Wildlife Resources Division is still not sure which eagle design to choose.

According to a press release from the DNR, voting was intense, but was neck and neck between the Eagle with the Flag design and the Eagle soaring over Pines design.

The voting on the other designs ended last month, but because it was too close to call with the Eagle designs, the DNR is holding a run-off between the two plates. Cast your vote NOW.

The run-off voting will end Nov. 7, 2012. In December, the winning designs will be announced as well as when they will be available in local tag offices for purchase. Each tag will be $60 with an annual renewal of $35. 

Every wildlife tag purchase helps fund conservation work such as purchasing critical habitats including endangered species habitat, environmentally sensitive wetlands, aquatic ecosystems and longleaf pine/wiregrass habitat, funding conservation projects to monitor wildlife, establishing public recreation opportunities and funding trout stocking.

Officials say that Georgia’s Nongame Conservation Section receives no state general funds for its mission to conserve wildlife not legally hunted, fished for or trapped, as well as rare plants and natural habitats in the state, but depend on direct contributions, grants, and fundraisers such as the nongame plates. Fundraisers account for about two-thirds of funds raised.
