Chattapoochee Dog Park Closed for Sod Repair

Popular facility to reopen April 1 following sod repair, installation of park benches and dog agility equipment.

Due to overwhelming use of the new Chattapoochee Dog Park, it will be closed from Monday, Feb. 27, until April 1 for sod repair, Duluth Parks and Recreation Department Director Kathy Marelle announced Monday.

“This time will allow the department to complete the necessary park repairs as well as to install the park benches and dog agility equipment,” Marelle said. The park opened for public use at Rogers Bridge Park in early January.

The Duluth Parks and Recreation Department and the Duluth Historical Society will host a grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 28, Marelle also announced.

The department is looking for the city’s top dog to be Mayor of the Chattapoochee Dog Park, Marelle said. Official rules will be announced on March 1, she said.
