Challenger Emerges in Duluth City Council Race

Duluth High grad says he will run for Post 2.

A challenger says he will seek election to the Duluth City Council in 2013.

Kirkland Carden, a graduate of Duluth High, told Patch on Monday that he plans to seek the Post 2 spot currently held by Jim Dugan.

"The city of Duluth has proven to be a city that can attract and retain major corporations and businesses without sacrificing its character.  I am running because I am committed to the city’s economic development while preserving the characteristics that set Duluth apart from other metro Atlanta communities," Carden said in the email.

Carden's Facebook page notes that he has served on the Duluth Urban Redevelopment Authority and the city Zoning Board of Appeals.

Post 2 incumbent Dugan was first elected to the council in 1997.

Other council posts scheduled for the Nov. 5 ballot are Post 1 (Marsha Anderson Bomar is the incumbent) and Post 3 (Billy Jones is the incumbent).
