Brooks To Take Gwinnett BOC Office Sept. 17

The former Suwanee City Council member will attend his first Gwinnett meeting Tuesday.

Jace Brooks, elected in July to represent District 1 on the Gwinnett Board of Commissioners, will be sworn into office Monday, Sept. 17.

Brooks will attend his first Gwinnett BOC meeting Tuesday, Sept. 18, according to a press release issued Friday by Gwinnett County.

Brooks, a Suwanee City Council member for 10 years from 2002-12, will be filling the remainder of the term that was vacated when Shirley Lasseter resigned in May amid federal bribery charges. He has no opposition in the November General Election.

Also, he was the only qualifier for a special election in November to fill her unexpired term.

Brooks was elected in July to a full term that begins in 2013.

District 1 represents Duluth, Suwanee and Sugar Hill.

“I’m grateful to take office now because District 1 needs and deserves an effective representative,” Brooks said in the Gwinnett news release. “I’m looking forward to assuming the responsibility to help move Gwinnett forward in a positive direction.”

Commission Chairman Charlotte Nash said: “We are pleased to have the board at full strength again and wholeheartedly welcome Commissioner Brooks to the commission. He will play an important role as we deal with the issues facing Gwinnett County."

Brooks is a former mayor pro tem of Suwanee.

A financial planner with Summit Wealth Management, Brooks is a past president of the Gwinnett Municipal Association. He earned a degree in finance from Louisiana Tech University and holds master’s degrees from Georgia State University and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

He and his wife Kirste have twin 11-year-olds. She is a math teacher in Gwinnett County Public Schools.
