Animal Adoption Block Party Saturday

Last day of Gwinnett Animal Welfare Center's 'Animal Explosion' discounted $30 adoption fees.

Three hundred and four animals have found loving homes since July 7 when the Gwinnett County Animal Welfare and Enforcement Center started holding an “Adoption Explosion” event, according to a press release issued on behalf of the center.

All month long, Animal Welfare has made animals available for a discounted $30 cash adoption fee that includes spaying/neutering, vaccinations and microchips. The regular fee is $90.

The "Adoption Explosion" ends Saturday, July 28, with a huge block party from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Animal Welfare and Enforcement Center, 884 Winder Hwy., in Lawrenceville. The shelter will stay open until 4 p.m. There will be a disc jockey, inflatables, children’s games, and craft items for pets. Rescue groups will display their available animals.

A cookout fundraiser benefiting the Society of Human Friends will feature hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and soft drinks. The discounted adoption fees were made possible by a reduction in veterinarian fees by the society.
