Teenager Shot at Discover Mills Saturday Night

14-year-old sustained gunshot wound to the back after apparent altercation between two groups in the parking lot.

Gwinnett Police officers responding to a report of a shooting about 9 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 20) at Discover Mills found a 14-year-old male who had sustained a gunshot wound to the back. Officer Jeffery Richter reported that the gunshot victim was transported Egleston Children’s Hospital (Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta), and on scene personnel indicated that his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

Initial reports indicate that an altercation had taken place between two groups of individuals in the parking lot outside the Burlington Coat Factory store, Richter said. During the altercation a gun was produced, and several shots were fired, with one striking the victim. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, he said.

Discover Mills is located in unincorporated Gwinnett County in an area associated with Lawrenceville.
