A Duluth man is facing charges in connection with an incident that began as a deal to buy marijuana, according to police information.

Cameron Gabriel Kemp of a Henry Court address in Duluth was booked into the Gwinnett Detention Center on Nov. 12 on charges of aggravated assault and criminal attempt to commit a crime, according to jail records.

According to the Gwinnett Police incident report, police responded to a call on Nov. 11 in the 3100 block of Cardinal Lake Drive. A man was sitting in his vehicle with a shotgun wound to his left forearm and left side, and there was blood in the driver's seat and rocker panel.

The victim said he was shot by a man with a shotgun at close range. The victim said he had met a man at a house on that street to sell him marijuana that was hidden inside a toy bear.

There were two men and a woman inside the house when the victim arrived, and the victim said one of the men tried to rob him. That's when the man shot the victim once, and the victim said that's when he threw the bear filled with pot out the window and drove away to the address where he called 911.

The victim said all three people ran away on foot after the shooting.

The victim also showed police a text message with a phone number from the suspect.

The victim was transported to a hospital; his injuries were considered non-life threatening.
