Gwinnett Police have identified the pedestrian that was killed on I-85 near Duluth on Friday morning (Aug. 30) as Briahna Baker, 23, of Suwanee.

According to a news release, the accident happened shortly before 4:30 a.m. Baker was a passenger in a vehicle traveling north on I-85. Baker and the driver got into an argument about the state of Baker's intoxication, police said.

Police said the driver pulled to the side of I-85, and Baker left the vehicle. Baker refused to get back in the vehicle, and the driver then left the area, leaving Baker behind.

Gwinnett Police began receiving calls about a traffic hazard of a person stumbling into the roadway who appeared to be intoxicated. Officers were dispatched to the area of northbound I-85, south of Sugarloaf Parkway. As police were responding, Baker was subsequently struck by a vehicle traveling northbound in the right lane on I-85 prior to their arrival.
