New Georgia State Patrol Post Opens in Duluth Area

The 37 state troopers at the new post will help alleviate traffic backups along the I-85 corridor.

Gwinnett leaders and representatives of law enforcement agencies participated in a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday (Aug 16) for a new Georgia State Patrol Post in the Duluth area.

The new Georgia State Patrol Post 51 is located at 1645 Pleasant Hill Road.

Thirty-seven state troopers will be stationed at the post, formed as the result of a partnership between the Georgia Department of Transportation and Georgia State Patrol.

Sgt. James Warren will serve as Post 51 commander.

Speakers at the ceremony included Gwinnett CommissionChairman Charlotte Nash, Gwinnett County Administrator Glenn Stephens, Georgia Department of Public Safety Commissioner Col. Mark McDonough, Georgia DOT Chief Engineer Russell McMurry, and Gwinnett Place CID Executive Director Joe Allen.

“Not only will this new post be a great benefit to area residents and business interests, but this strategic location will enable the 37 troopers to quickly respond to incidents on I-85 in an effort to improve the flow of traffic along the interstate,” said Allen.

Also participating in the ribbon-cutting ceremony were State Rep. Pedro Marin, State Rep. Timothy Barr, Gwinnett Place CID Secretary-Treasurer Mark Williams, Sgt. Warren, Chief Gwinnett Sheriff's Deputy Mike Boyd, District 1 Gwinnett Commissioner Jace Brooks, District 2 Gwinnett Commissioner Lynette Howard, and Gwinnett Police Chief Charles Walters.
