Mother Identified as Victim in Fatal Interstate 85 Accident

The driver of a tractor trailer involved in this accident also has been identified, but police are not releasing his name at this time.

Police have identified the deceased woman ejected from her vehicle Monday in an accident along Interstate 85 near Steve Reynolds Boulevard.

She is identified as Rabia Adnan, a 32-year-old mom from Duluth.

Gwinnett County police said she was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, when the Nissan Pathfinder she was a passenger in came into contact with a tractor trailer.

Her husband was driving the SUV at the time and their two children were also in the vehicle. Police said the children -- a 7-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy -- were in properly installed safety seats, and were treated and released to their father.

Additionally, police said the driver of the tractor trailer has been identified, and that there is an ongoing investigation into the accident's cause.

Police have said that the tractor trailer driver did not stop at the scene of the incident, but that he was cooperating with police.

"His identity will not be released at this time and he has not been charged," said Cpl. Jake Smith in a press release. "Unless the particular circumstances of an accident require an immediate arrest, fatal accident investigations are completed before charges are filed."

That process can take weeks, he said. However, speed, alcohol and drugs are not considered contributing factors in this case.

Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to call investigators at 678-442-5626.
