Lightning May Have Started Duluth House Fire

Caller reports seeing lightning strike home, smoke and fire on upper level.

A lightning strike may have started a fire that damaged a home in the 2100 block of Broadfield Run in Duluth Tuesday (July 3) evening. Gwinnett firefighters were dispatched at 8:55 p.m., and the fire was under control by 9:29 p.m., according to Lt. Colin S. Rhoden, public information officer with Gwinnett Fire/Emergency Services.

No injuries were reported. The resident(s) were not at home, but arrived while firefighting efforts were in progress. A caller told the dispatcher they saw lightning strike the house and observed smoke and fire on the upper level, Rhoden reported.

On arrival firefighters found fire showing through the roof. Crews made rapid entry and quickly put the fire out, he said.
