The second Annual Jail Break Challenge — including a 5-kilometer trail run and 16 military-style obstacles — is set for Saturday, June 5 on the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office training course in Lawrenceville.

The event has already signed up 500 runners and registration will be accepted before the 8 a.m. start. Race-day registration is $45 per person and $160 per team. Get more info here

The first wave of team competitors will be military Special Forces and SWAT teams competing against each other, Sheriff’s Office Deputy Shannon Volkodav said in a press release.

Volkodav also noted, “Runners will encounter ‘escaped inmates’ along the route and can earn prizes by catching one.”

The proceeds from the race will benefit the department’s community youth programs, such as Gwinnett Beat the Heat (teaching young drivers about the dangers of street racing and distracted driving) and Explorer Post #699 (a youth mentoring program).
