Home on Hopkins Mill Road Declared Total Loss

Vacant house in Duluth was reported engulfed in flames when 911 call received and when firefighters arrived on scene.

A vacant home at 2081 Hopkins Mill Road in Duluth was declared a total loss following a fire reported shortly after midnight Tuesday (April 9).

Gwinnett firefighters responded to a 911 call reporting a neighboring house on fire, according to Capt. Tommy Rutledge in a news release. The caller reported the home engulfed in flames at the time of the call. Crews found the one-story brick home over a basement fully involved on arrival, Rutledge said.

Firefighters deployed attack hose lines and battled the blaze from the outside before being able to go inside. Flames were seen venting through the roof as fire crews sprayed water from several hand lines and master streams to control the blaze. The fire was brought under control about 12:48 a.m., Rutledge reported. The home is a total loss due to the fire, he said.
