Gwinnett Police Cracking Down on Drunk Drivers

DUI Taskforce leading large-scale operation to apprehend impaired drivers

The green beer may be tempting, but don’t drink too much of it. The Gwinnett County Police Department announced it is cracking down on drunk drivers on Saint Patrick’s Day. The large-scale traffic enforcement operation will also involve the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Department.

The March 17 crackdown will be led by the DUI Taskforce with assistance from several units, according to Gwinnett Police Cpl. Edwin Ritter. “The operation will be countywide and will place special emphasis on preventing drunk driving and apprehending impaired drivers,” Ritter said. “This will be an effort to prevent injury and death caused by impaired driving,” he said.

“The GCPD urges party-goers to designate a sober driver, use a taxi or call a friend or family for a ride. Have a plan before heading out for the evening,” Ritter said.
