Fire Damages House in Duluth

Adults and children are displaced by the blaze, which was in the garage.

Updated 5:08 p.m.

The garage of a house in Duluth was heavily damaged Wednesday (Sept. 25) by a fire that sent "significant" smoke and heat throughout the house, according to Gwinnett Fire.

According to a news release, firefighters responded to a situation in the 2200 block of Honeycomb Court NW at 3:17 p.m. Firefighters made an "offensive" attack with hose lines through the front door to extinguish the blaze.

An adult occupant was treated and released at the scene for minor burns to the hand, the release said. The occupant was at home at the time of the fire and tried to put out the flames before fire officials arrived.

The cause of the fire appears accidental and may be due to smoking materials in the garage, officials said.

The Red Cross was contacted to assist the family of three adults and three children displaced by the damage, fire officials said.
