Pleasant Hill Road Eastbound Reopened
Natural gas leak caused by delivery truck hitting meter at shopping center fixed by Atlanta Gas Light.
Emergency crews from Atlanta Gas Light stopped a natural gas leak at Pleasant Hill Road and Satellite Boulevard that had closed the eastbound lanes of Pleasant Hill Road about 12:40 p.m. Thursday, according to Gwinnett Fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge. The closed lanes were reopened at 1:03 p.m.
Gwinnett firefighters responded to a 11:07 a.m. report of a natural gas leak at the location and found a gas meter behind a strip shopping center that was damaged after being struck by a delivery truck, Rutledge reported.Β The meter was broken at the ground, and gas vapors escaped from a one-inch service line that was attached, he said.
Firefighters evacuated six businesses, approximately 25 people, in the shopping center until the leak was under control, Rutledge said. Fire crews monitored natural gas readings in the immediate area and deployed hoselines on the ground as a precaution, he said
